Dawn writes: Not content to just fade away, I am a senior seeking new perspectives on the roles art practices and art activism can play in much-needed systems change. My reflections and rumination, like or unlike yours, are meant as steppingstones for discussion in this salon. Part rant, part commiseration, part investigation, it is an evening to generate lots of discussions, to help kickstart new potential for systems change within our communities.

How can or where does your art fit into your equation of activism?  When is art the best methodology and when and at what moments are we needed in capacities other than as artists?

About the artist:
Dawn Dale self-identifies as an ecofeminist artist whose practice is grounded in the slow gathering and accumulation of natural materials worked into ephemeral, often site-specific, installations. She also reuses and repurposes elements from previous works and incorporates recycled objects closely associated with nurturing, such as jars and bowls. Her work speaks of regeneration in a world that is fast losing its footing in Nature, a world that is hurtling through the Anthropocene towards manmade mass extinction.

She lives in Aylmer, Québec with her life partner in a half-wilded/zeroscape woodlot. She is a long-term instructor at The Ottawa School of Art.
